Planters Snacks
Planters is a well-known snack company that has been around since 1906, founded by Italian immigrant Amedeo Obici. The company is best known for its processed nuts, and Mr. Peanut, the iconic mascot, was created in 1916 by a 14-year-old boy named Antonio Gentile as part of a contest to design the company's brand icon.
Planters offers a variety of products, including peanuts, snackable nut mixes, seeds, Cheez Balls, and Cheez Curls, among others. The brand was acquired by Hormel Foods in 2022 for $3.35 billion from Kraft Heinz, marking the largest deal in Hormel's 131-year history.
One of Planters' notable product lines is the Planters NUT-RITION® series, which includes snack nut mixes that are low in sodium and high in crunchiness and taste, containing essential nutrients like cashews, almonds, walnuts, and pecans roasted in peanut oil and seasoned with a touch of sea salt. These gluten-free nuts deliver five essential nutrients and contain no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives, with 5 grams/5% DV of protein per 1 ounce serving.
Over the years, Planters has introduced various products to its lineup, including trail mix in 1998 and the NUT-RITION® line in 2004, specifically blending snack nuts to meet some consumers' higher nutrition and wellness desires. However, not all products have been a success; for example, the PB Crisps, introduced in 1992 and quickly becoming a fan favorite for their crispy outer shell and creamy peanut butter filling, were discontinued in 1995, leaving many fans disappointed, still to this day!
However, this brand never seems to disappoint as they still produce some of America’s favorite nuts and flavors! Plus, Planters maintains its position as a beloved snack brand, expanding its range and adapting to changing consumer tastes over the years.
