Starburst
Starburst is a popular candy brand known for its fruit-flavored soft taffy candies. Introduced by Mars, Inc. in the United Kingdom in 1960 under the name Opal Fruits, the brand was later renamed Starburst in the United States in 1967.
The original flavors included strawberry, lemon, orange, and lime, with lime being replaced by cherry in the US in the early 1980s. Starburst has expanded its range to include numerous flavors and forms, such as Tropical, Sour, FaveREDs, Watermelon, Very Berry, Superfruit, and Summer Blast.
The brand has also released limited-edition and special flavors over the years, including a line of "Baja" flavors, Starburst Choozers in the UK, and a revival of the original Opal Fruits name for a limited period in the UK in 2020.
Starburst has also been marketed in various forms, such as candy corn, popsicles, gum, candy canes, jelly beans, fruit roll-ups, gelatin, energy drinks, lip gloss, and yogurt, showcasing the brand's versatility and popularity.
Starburst's success is partly due to its marketing strategies, including tie-ins with popular movies like "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest," where they replaced Kiwi Banana and Tropical Punch with Royal Berry Punch. The brand has also been highlighted by a memorable commercial known as "Berries and Creme" or "The Little Lad Dance," which went viral on TikTok in the second half of 2021.
In addition to its wide variety of flavors and forms, Starburst is known for its juicy and fruity taste, making it one of America's favorite candies. It has been recognized as the fourth best-selling Halloween candy, and in six states, Starburst was the top seller during Halloween. The brand continues to innovate with new flavors and products, ensuring its popularity among candy lovers.
