Life Savers
Life Savers is a popular ring-shaped hard and soft candy brand known for its distinctive packaging and variety of flavors.
It was invented in 1912 by Clarence Crane of Garrettsville, Ohio, as a "summer candy" that could withstand heat better than chocolate. The life preserver shape inspired the candy's name and initial concept, and the original packaging featured a sailor tossing a life preserver to a person in the water.
The brand initially offered peppermint flavor, which was expanded to include a range of fruit flavors. Over the years, Life Savers has introduced various flavor lineups with notable additions and changes.
Life Savers has had a rich history of ownership and production, with notable milestones including its acquisition by Nabisco Brands Inc. in 1981, the U.S. Life Savers business being acquired by Wrigley's in 2004, and the production moving from Holland, Michigan, to Montreal, Québec, Canada, in 2002.
The brand has continued to innovate, introducing new flavors and variations, such as Life Savers Gummies and Life Savers Mints. Today, Life Savers is owned by Mars, Incorporated, and continues to be a beloved candy brand worldwide.
