Cadbury Candy

The history of Cadbury Candy dates back to 1824, when John Cadbury opened his first shop in Birmingham, England. Initially a grocer, John started manufacturing in 1831 after renting a warehouse in Crooked Lane.

In the 1840s, John's brother Benjamin joined the company, forming Cadbury Brothers. The firm became known for its high-quality cocoa and chocolate products, and in 1854, they received a Royal Warrant as manufacturers of chocolate and cocoa to Queen Victoria.

John Cadbury retired in 1861, and his sons Richard and George took over the business. They launched a new product, Cadbury Cocoa Essence, in 1866. The company expanded significantly in the late 19th century, with the opening of a new factory in 1879, the development of the "factory in a garden" concept, and the introduction of the first milk chocolate bar in 1897.

Cadbury Dairy Milk was launched in 1905, marking a significant milestone in the company's history. Over the years, the company continued to innovate and expand, including opening its first overseas factory in Tasmania in 1921. By 1930, Cadbury had become Britain's 24th largest manufacturing firm and the original 14-acre site at Bournville had grown to 81 acres.

Throughout its history, the workforce's well-being was a priority for the Cadbury family. They provided a clean and healthy working environment and built a village, Bournville, to house their employees. This village included amenities such as dressing areas, restrooms, and a concert hall.

In 1969, the firm merged with Schweppes and became known as Cadbury Schweppes. Today, Cadbury is recognized worldwide for its high-quality chocolate products, including Dairy Milk, Flake, and Creme Eggs. The company's commitment to quality and innovation continues to make it a beloved and iconic brand in the confectionery industry.
